Energy Efficiency Projects in Ukraine

Ukrainian school teachers have been trained in applying interactive methods for promoting energy efficiency Event Date: 15.02.2017

As the second stage of the educational energy efficiency project entitled “School of Energy 2.0” is underway, the Project “Establishment of Energy Agencies in Ukraine” together with the Association “Energy Efficient Cities of Ukraine” (EECU) are especially interested in increasing and strengthening the impact of this initiative, in particular by sharing successful achievements amongst the largest possible number of stakeholders in educational sector.

The experience of the first phase of “School of Energy” has revealed that the awareness level of educators on energy-related topics is often quite sufficient. At the same time, there is an urgent need of strengthening their capacities in terms of developing innovative lessons and thus transmitting knowledge to their pupils in an interesting and sustainable way.

The expected project impact implies that not just the 15 selected schools will benefit from it, but a much larger number of educational establishments, namely through multiplication effect. Therefore, it is important that the teachers are equipped with necessary skills to engage their colleagues from other schools in promoting energy efficiency issues.

With this in view, on 15-16 February 2017 a training on modern approaches to knowledge multiplication took place in Lviv. Teachers from 15 project schools were trained by highly qualified educational and awareness raising experts. They learned about a wide range of interactive tools and techniques to multiply their skills in an attractive way, to conduct tailored workshops and other educational activities, as well as to encourage schoolchildren, their parents and teachers to get actively involved in School Energy Days.

Based on the knowledge and skills acquired at the training, the teachers together with schoolchildren will have to organize School Energy Days towards the end of the school year 2016/2017. For this, they will invite other schools from their city or region as well as representatives of the public and inform them about the project results in order to motivate them to achieve similar action aimed at improving energy efficiency in their schools.
