“European Sustainable Energy Week” was held from June 19 to June 24, 2017, in Ukraine within the framework of EU initiative “The Mayors Agreement for Climate Improvement”. From 22 of June till 24 of June Odessa joined to the execution of «European Sustainable Energy Week» for the first time since the Agreement was signed.
The terms of accession and signing of the Agreement is the commitment to reduce energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by 20% by 2020. In the furtherance of this goal «Action Plan for Sustainable Energy Development of Odessa until 2030» was devised and approved in December 2016.
The goal of the “European Sustainable Energy Week” in Odessa is to provide information to the public about the technologies of rational use of energy resources, to demonstrate the economic benefits from their use and to popularize the careful attitude to the planet’s resources as an economically viable model of behavior.
In the period from June 22 to June 25 oriented to different segments of the population, events were held in Odessa.
Center for Energy Efficient Technologies was opened on the basis of Odessa Polytechnic University in the framework of “Establishment of Energy Agencies in Ukraine” project implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, financed by the German government on the 22nd of June.
The objectives of creating Center for Energy Efficient Technologies:
– popularisation of modern energy-efficient solutions in the field of energy and building: consultations, seminars, conferences;
– training of the students on modern equipment;
– future training and probation of specialists with certification;
– creation of the platform for communication between various organisations.
The conference was held for representatives of the Association of Co-owners of Multi-ward Buildings “Energy audit of a residential building is the basic premise for energy efficiency and comfort”.
The conference was attended by Senior Coordinator of GIZ project “Establishment of Energy Agencies in Ukraine” Volodymyr Peregudov, expert of IFC project Viktor Mostovoi, Director of «Odessa Municipal Energy Agency» Alexandra Oleinikova, representatives of Oschadbank of Ukraine, PrivatBank, Ukrgasbank.
The participants of the conference visited a successfully implemented project of thermal modernization of a residential building, received a detailed calculation of the return of investments, visited Society of Owners of Multi Apartment House. Society of Owners of Multi Apartment House reduced the expenses of heating by 37% as a result of the implementation of energy-efficient measures. This example was chosen to encourage representatives of the Society of Owners of Multi Apartment House to take advantage of preferential credit programs for implementing energy-efficient projects in residential buildings.
The action «I am a European! I support sustainable energy development!» was held on June 24 on Duma Square. About 2,000 of the residents of Odessa and visitors shared their experience of energy saving in everyday life within the framework of action. Inhabitants of Odessa were asked to replace incandescent lamps with LED energy-saving lamps.
As a result of the action for the period of using the lamps, it is expected:
– saving electricity consumption by 4428 kW;
– saving of СО2 will be 2 tons.
Even the smallest energy saving is the personal participation of every person in the global process. “Climate change is not an abstraction or a message about economic losses. This is a tragedy of real people, which applies to each of us. ”
Within the framework of the action, the smallest residents of Odessa learned how the electric current works and the “secrets of the light bulb” due to the interesting children’s performance of the show theater “Art Joy”.
At the end of the «European Sustainable Energy Week», the winners of the competition “Energy Efficient Odessa” were awarded on June 23. The competition «Energy Efficient Odessa» had been already held for 5 years.
More than 200 people took part in the competition. The contest is aimed to form an energy-efficient worldview in the society by involving citizens in the issues of efficient use of energy resources and renewable energy sources. The contest also aims to support gifted children and enhance the creative activity of teachers as well as to increase knowledge about the measures of energy conservation and its effective use, the well-being of local citizens on energy efficiency issues.
Among the winners of the contest were special children, whose families moved to Odessa region from the East of Ukraine and from Crimea. For example, a victory was won by Anastasia Zhavoronok in the nomination “Drawing” in 2016 and 2017. Her family moved to Odessa from Crimea in spring of 2014. Her father was a military man and he did not change his oath and took his wife and children and moved to serve Ukraine in Odessa.
The highlight of the jubilee year of the contest “Energy Efficient Odessa” were two participants, who are only 4 years old! Kira and Ksenia showed everyone that people should speak about energy efficiency at any age!
42 contestants received diplomas of the winners and gifts for the best works from the organizers in this year.
